Segmentation

Dividing your contact list into groups based on shared attributes or behavior so messaging can be tailored to each.

Definition

Segmentation is the practice of grouping contacts by criteria — demographics, firmographics, lifecycle stage, source, recent activity, purchase history, or any custom field. Segments can be static (a fixed list) or dynamic (auto-updating as contacts meet or leave criteria). Marketers use segments to send relevant content, run A/B tests against specific cohorts, and exclude people who shouldn't receive a given message. Good segmentation lifts open, click, and reply rates.

Example

A coach builds a dynamic segment of "contacts who joined in the last 30 days AND haven't attended an onboarding call" and triggers a tailored WhatsApp nudge for that segment only.
