Email & SMS

SMS Marketing

Sending promotional or transactional text messages to opted-in contacts over the mobile phone network.

Definition

SMS marketing is the practice of using text messaging to reach customers with offers, reminders, or updates. It typically requires explicit opt-in (in the U.S., under the TCPA), a clear sender identity, and an easy opt-out keyword like STOP. Open rates are very high relative to email, but the channel is intrusive and lightly regulated by carrier rules and country-level laws, so frequency and content discipline matter. SMS is often used together with email and WhatsApp in cross-channel sequences.

Example

A restaurant texts opted-in customers a 20% off code on Tuesday afternoons. Each text includes "Reply STOP to unsubscribe" and is sent from an approved short code.
