Chatbot
An automated chat program that converses with website or messaging-app visitors to answer questions and capture leads.
Definition
A chatbot is software that simulates conversation with users — through a website widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, or another channel — to answer questions, qualify leads, book appointments, or hand off to a human. Chatbots range from simple rule-based decision trees to AI-driven assistants powered by large language models. They're widely used for first-line support, lead qualification, and reducing the cost of repetitive inbound questions, especially outside business hours.
Example
A SaaS site uses a chatbot to ask visitors what they're trying to do, route product questions to docs, and book a demo straight into a sales rep's calendar when intent is high.
