Definition

The WhatsApp Business API (officially the WhatsApp Business Platform) is the cloud and on-premise API offered by Meta for businesses that need to handle WhatsApp conversations at scale. Unlike the consumer WhatsApp app or the small-business WhatsApp Business app, the API has no user interface of its own — businesses access it through a Business Solution Provider or directly via Meta Cloud API, and connect it to a CRM, helpdesk, or marketing platform. It supports template messages, two-way conversations, media, and webhooks.

Example

A clinic uses the WhatsApp Business API to send appointment reminders from a verified business profile. When a patient replies, the message is routed into the team inbox where any agent can respond.
