SendGrid CRM Integration

Transactional emails

SendGrid is a transactional and marketing email service from Twilio, widely used by developers and marketing teams to send high-volume email reliably. It manages deliverability infrastructure, dedicated IPs, suppression lists, and detailed event tracking. Connecting SendGrid to WellPlan lets you send campaign and transactional emails through your SendGrid account rather than personal mailboxes, which is essential at higher volumes. Open, click, bounce, and unsubscribe events flow back into WellPlan workflows so triggers and segmentation react to real engagement data. Teams keep deliverability strong while still managing content and audiences inside WellPlan.

Common use cases

Send high-volume campaigns reliably

An e-commerce brand sends weekly newsletters to a list too large for a personal mailbox. WellPlan composes and segments the campaign while SendGrid handles delivery, IP reputation, and tracking, with events flowing back into the CRM in near real time.

Route transactional emails through SendGrid

A SaaS company sends order confirmations, password resets, and trial expiry notices through SendGrid. WellPlan triggers each email from workflow events, while SendGrid's deliverability infrastructure keeps these critical messages out of the spam folder.

React to bounces and unsubscribes automatically

When SendGrid reports a hard bounce, a WellPlan workflow marks the contact's email as invalid and pauses any active sequences. Unsubscribes update suppression lists on both sides so the contact never gets accidentally re-engaged from another campaign.

How setup works

  1. 1Create or sign in to your SendGrid account and verify the sending domain through DNS records.
  2. 2Generate a SendGrid API key with permissions to send mail and read event data.
  3. 3Open WellPlan's Integrations settings, paste the API key, and confirm the sender identity.
  4. 4Send a test campaign to a small segment and confirm events appear in both SendGrid and WellPlan.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to authenticate my domain?+

Yes. SendGrid strongly recommends configuring SPF, DKIM, and DMARC for your sending domain. Domain authentication significantly improves deliverability and is increasingly required by Gmail and Yahoo for senders above modest daily volumes.

Can I use a dedicated IP?+

Yes. SendGrid offers dedicated IPs on its higher plans, useful for senders with consistent high-volume traffic who want full control over their IP reputation. Most smaller senders are fine on shared IPs, which SendGrid manages on their behalf.

How do bounces and unsubscribes sync back?+

SendGrid sends event webhooks for processed, delivered, opened, clicked, bounced, dropped, deferred, and unsubscribed events. WellPlan listens for these events and updates contact records and workflows accordingly so segmentation stays based on real engagement.

Is this different from using Gmail or Outlook?+

Yes. Gmail and Outlook send from a personal mailbox and are best for one-to-one sales and support email. SendGrid is built for marketing and transactional volume that would exceed mailbox limits or risk damaging a personal domain's reputation if used at scale.
