Conversion Rate
The percentage of visitors or recipients who take a desired action, like submitting a form or buying.
Definition
Conversion rate is the share of an audience that completes a defined goal divided by the total who had the chance. It can be measured at any step — landing page visit to lead, lead to qualified opportunity, opportunity to customer, email open to click, ad impression to signup. The right denominator and the right "conversion event" depend on the funnel step being measured. Comparing conversion rates over time and across segments is one of the cleanest ways to see whether changes are helping.
Example
A landing page gets 1,200 visits and 96 sign-ups in a week. Its conversion rate is 96 / 1,200 = 8%.
