MessageBird CRM Integration

Omnichannel messaging

MessageBird, now branded as Bird, is an omnichannel communications platform with SMS, WhatsApp, email, voice, and other channels delivered through a single API and dashboard. It is particularly popular in Europe and Asia where regional carrier coverage matters. Connecting MessageBird to WellPlan lets you send and receive SMS and other channels through your MessageBird numbers, while conversations land in the unified inbox alongside WhatsApp, email, and social messages. Teams keep their existing MessageBird sender inventory, carrier registrations, and pricing while WellPlan handles the day-to-day inbox and workflow UI.

Common use cases

Send European SMS through existing numbers

A pan-European logistics company already runs delivery alerts through MessageBird in five countries. WellPlan connects to the account, routes each market through its local sender, and brings inbound replies into one unified inbox for the central support team.

Unify omnichannel messaging in one inbox

A travel brand uses MessageBird for SMS and WhatsApp. By connecting the account to WellPlan, support agents see every channel in one timeline per contact, instead of switching between MessageBird Inbox and the original CRM.

Run multichannel campaign sequences

A subscription business sends a renewal sequence that starts with email, falls back to SMS, then to WhatsApp if there's no response. WellPlan orchestrates the flow while MessageBird delivers the actual messages on each channel.

How setup works

  1. 1Sign in to your MessageBird/Bird account and create an API key with messaging permissions.
  2. 2Open WellPlan's Integrations settings and paste the MessageBird API key.
  3. 3Map your MessageBird numbers and senders to WellPlan messaging channels.
  4. 4Send a test SMS and confirm inbound replies appear in WellPlan's inbox.

Frequently asked questions

Is MessageBird the same as Bird?+

Yes. MessageBird rebranded to Bird in 2023, and the platform name and dashboard now use Bird, with the same underlying messaging products. Integrations and APIs continue to operate, though some endpoints and product names have evolved alongside the rebrand.

Does MessageBird support WhatsApp Business API?+

Yes. MessageBird is an authorized WhatsApp Business Solution Provider and can host your WhatsApp Business API number. If your WhatsApp sender is on MessageBird, you can route WhatsApp conversations into WellPlan through the integration.

How does pricing work?+

MessageBird/Bird charges per message based on destination country and channel, billed directly through your MessageBird account. WellPlan does not change those rates; it sits on top as the UI. Volume discounts and committed-use pricing remain in MessageBird's contract.

Will my existing MessageBird flows still work?+

Yes. Existing MessageBird Flow Builder automations continue to run independently. Many teams gradually migrate flows into WellPlan workflows once they're confident in the integration, while keeping mission-critical flows in MessageBird until the transition is complete.
